IABC-Iowa is proud to host nationally-recognized speaker Karen Susman, as she teaches us how to take our presentation skills beyond what we think we already know. According to the Wall Street Journal, being able to speak comfortably and proficiently to any group of any size and in any setting is one of the most valuable skill sets a professional can have. Effective speakers are not just content experts. Spewing facts and figures does not a great speaker make. Effective speakers connect with their audiences. Today’s audiences refuse to respond to boring speakers and those who won’t or can’t make a connection. Who is Bob Bowman? Michael Phelps was a pretty good swimmer when he won his first four or five Olympic gold medals. Bob Bowman coached Phelps to be the winner of 16 gold medals. Thus, no matter what your skill level, you can ramp up your effectiveness. In this session, learn how to engage your audience, connect and build consensus. Add punch and pizzazz to your presentations. In this half day session, we’ll cover how to:
• Connect before, during and after your presentation.
• Grab your audience six different ways
• Get ‘em back if you’ve lost ‘em.
• Overcome the knowledge gap and acronym acrimony.
• Expand and contract your message to fit changing agendas.
• Handle difficult audience members, goofs, snafus and other treats.
• Use speaking to market your agenda, initiative and business.
• How to make a good last impression so you and your message are remembered and action is taken.
• Be funnier.
• Shifting gears quickly to gain understanding and/or get back on track
• What to do after your presentation to maximize results.

Karen is known for solid content, interaction and fun. Ned Breslin, CEO of Water For People says, “I have been speaking in front of a variety of groups for years. I was pretty compelling and at times quite entertaining, but I knew that I could be much better if I had some help. Thankfully I was referred to Karen. The quality of my speeches, my ability to deliver a “punch”, and my overall style have improved dramatically. I am more comfortable, more confident, more structured and much clearer as a result of Karen’s coaching. I have a long way to go, and will travel on that path with Karen.”
